Australia offers the following types of courses

  • Undergraduate / Bachelor’s Degree – 3/4/5 years
  • Master’s Degree – Only after Bachelor’s degree and from 1 to 2 years duration)
  • Doctoral  – (PhD equivalent and takes 4 to 7 years to complete)

It takes between 1-3 months for the Student Visa process to be completed although with the recent SSVF process – it has become streamlined and has reduced TAT of 4-6 weeks

Typically Admission Process entails the following steps

  1. Be aware of various types of programs/courses to apply
  2. Basis a student’s current skills / educational qualifications/work experience / – a student should prioritize a list of 1-2 courses he wants to study in Australia
  3. Evaluate and shortlist about 5 universities to apply for admissions based on criteria of affordability / QS ranking/tuition fees / reputation / location etc
  4. Take English Language Test (Academic) preferably PTE well before applying
  5. Prepare a Statement of Purpose as asked for by different universities
  6. Obtain Letters of Recommendation from current/previous professors (Education related) and from your superiors
  7. Apply to the approved Universities at least 20 days before the cut-off date

Steps to Apply for Student Visa in Australia

  1. Once the university offers you admission – they will issue a letter of offer detailing the course of study and enrollment requirements. This letter is called the Confirmation of Enrollment (COE) document
  2. You have to then satisfy the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criteria wherein a student has to demonstrate that he/she wants to temporarily stay in Australia for education and the funds to fulfill this need. The student has to mandatorily attend a GTE interview
  3. Ensure you collate documents showing adequate funds in the SB account for your education/stay in Australia
  4. Now you have to purchase Overseas Student Health Cover in Australia (to cover your medical /hospitalization costs in Australia)
  5. Obtain a police certificate (penal clearance certificate) and maybe a certificate from an employer (if the University asks specifically)
  6. Now a student must prepare an online student visa application form and ensure to keep all documents ready -ie. Financial statements/income proof or sponsor documents / medical certificate /police clearance certificate / attested study certificates / English language test results
  7. Now seek an appointment with the local Australian Embassy / Consulate
  8. Then pay the visa fees
  9. Submit the visa application along with supporting documents as per checklist
